After seven months of extensive deliberations and countless meetings, officials from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) – Makati chapter and the National Commission for Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) have finally paved the way for Makati City to emerge as a prominent halal hub.
This groundbreaking development signifies the institutionalization of a robust halal accreditation system in the Philippines, positioning the nation to tap into the lucrative $7 trillion global halal market.
With a bold vision, the PCCI Makati chapter aims to achieve an impressive $4 billion in halal exports of goods and services within the initial five-year period. Such a feat holds the promise of catalyzing job creation and bolstering government revenues.
The formalization of this initiative occurred through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between PCCI Makati and NCMF at the prestigious Makati residences. This MOU, a result of discussions initiated on May 3, 2023, was signed by NCMF Executive Director Tahir S. Lidasan Jr. and PCCI Makati President Nunnatus Cortez, marking a pivotal moment in the promotion and development of the halal industry.
Under the MOU, a comprehensive framework for collaboration has been established, fostering linkages among manufacturers, traders, buyers, and consumers, while bolstering the production and distribution of halal products and services.
Mrs. Ruby Banares Victorino, Director of PCCI Makati and Chairwoman of Halal Initiatives, emphasized the concerted efforts of both the government and private sector in advancing the interests of Muslim communities. Members of PCCI Makati have been mobilized to identify and seize opportunities in this endeavor, marking a significant step towards inclusive economic growth.
